Since the start of the 2016 season, the Braves and Monarchs have ruled the SoCal rankings. Each team has finished at the top of the area rankings three times over the last six full seasons.
The last team, other than Mater Dei or Bosco, to be ranked No. 1 in Southern California is Corona Centennial. The Huskies, who start ’23 ranked No. 3, finished No. 1 in the SoCal Top 25 at the end of the 2015 season.
The Braves and Monarchs have been just as good on the national scene. Mater Dei has won three HSFA national titles since 2017. Bosco won our national crown in 2019 and last season.
Everyone is waiting for the showdown between the two on October 13 on the campus of St. John Bosco in Bellflower.
The aforementioned Corona Centennial Huskies will get shot at No. 1 when they open at home against Mater Dei.
Falling in behind the Huskies is Mission Viejo at No. 4. Orange Lutheran, at No. 5, is the third Trinity League team in the Top 5.
With JSerra at No. 8 and Santa Margarita at No. 10, the Trinity League has five of its six teams in the Top 25.
The Mission League has four ranked teams — No. 6 Sierra Canyon, No. 8 Serra, No. 9 Chaminade and No. 15 Bishop Amat.
