It was a fairly calm weekend in the High School Football America, except in the State of New Jersey. Outside of Jersey, only eight HSFA 100 teams lost — No. 24 Hoover (Alabama), No. 48 Pulaski Academy (Arkansas), No. 52 Elder (Ohio), No. 60 St. Xavier (Ohio), No. 63 Bishop Gorman (Nevada), No. 65 North Gwinnett (Georgia), No. 71 Catholic (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) and No. 73 Milton (Georgia). Hoover, Elder, Gorman, North Gwinnett and Catholic’s losses were suffered in head-to-head Top 100 matchups.

And, speaking of head-to-head 100’s, the two losses by Jersey’s No. 5 Bergen Catholic and No. 10 DePaul Catholic caused the biggest shake-up in the latest rankings that are created with our proprietary algorithm.

St. Peter’s Prep jumps from No. 62 to No. 24 after easily defeating BC 34-7. The loss dropped the Crusaders to No. 28. St. Joseph Regional (Montvale) moves-up one spot to No. 43 after knocking-off No. 10 DePaul Catholic, which falls to No. 46.

Pulaski Academy and St. X both drop out of this week’s rankings, which opens the door for Roswell (Georgia) at No. 90 and two-time defending Texas state champ Highland Park at No. 97.

Looking ahead — it’s showdown time in Southern California where No. 1 Mater Dei (California) hosts No. 5 IMG Academy (Florida). Both teams will be well rested. Mater Dei is coming off of its bye week, while IMG didn’t make its trip to Washington, D.C. to play its game against No. 3 St. John’s College High School.

Another biggie in SoCal finds No. 20 Mission Viejo facing No. 29 Orange Lutheran.

Then there’s the big Florida clash between No. 7 Miami Central and No. 9 St. Thomas Aquinas. Also in the Sunshine State, No. 42 American Heritage (Plantation) plays No. 58 Chaminade-Madonna in a battle of defending state champs.

In Georgia, No. 13 Colquitt County collides with No. 31 Grayson and No. 59 Buford goes against No. 93 Archer.

The seventh Top 100 clash will be in Oklahoma where No. 44 Broken Arrow takes on No. 96 Jenks.
