For the second time in six weeks, Southern California high school football heavyweights St. John Bosco and Mater Dei will battle for the top of the High School Football America 300, powered by NFL Play Football. It will be the sixth time since 2016 that these two have played twice in a season.

No. 1 St. John Bosco is hoping that history doesn’t repeat itself. In the each of the last five Part II’s, the regular season winner has lost in the rematch.

The winner of this one has the inside track to the 2023 High School Football America national championship. It’s very familiar territory for both programs, because between them, they’ve won five of the last six HSFA national titles. Mater Dei owns three (2017, 2018, 2021) HSFA national titles. Bosco is the defending national champ to go along with its 2019 crown.

No. 3 Bishop Gorman (Nevada) is looking for some help to win its second national title. The Gaels won the 2016 HSFA national crown.

How does BG win the national title? First, they must win the Nevada 5A Division I championship on Tuesday when they face No. 161 Liberty at Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders. If the Gaels win their 13th Nevada state title in the last 14 years, they’ll then need the Bosco/Mater Dei winner to lose in the California Open Division championship game.

As far as the latest rankings, there are eleven new teams in the Top 300:

  • No. 209 Cy-Fair (Texas)
  • No. 253 Dutch Fork (South Carolina)
