The Alabama Football Coaches Association isn’t in favor of a proposed June signing period for college football. Thursday, the ALFCA released a statement against the Collegiate Commissioners Association’s discussion that could add a third signing period for college football in June 2025. The CCA oversees and administers the National Letter of Intent program.
Below is the statement from the ALFCA:
βThere is a proposed early June signing period for high school players. This would mean that athletes would sign with colleges prior to their senior football season. We believe this is not good for high school football as it would lead to possible re-classifying, senior opt-outs and other issues. Therefore, the ALFCA stands strongly against this proposal. We hope that the decision makers will honor our concerns as a coaches association and urge other state associations to share their concerns about the June signing period.β

The new June signing period was part of last week’s announcement by the CCA that it was moving the current early signing period from mid-December to the Wednesday after Thanksgiving, starting in 2024. The CCA added the December early signing period for football in 2017. According to reports, about 80% of available scholarships are signed for during the December period.
The traditional signing period remains on the first Wednesday of February and run through April 1.
The Alabama announcement came the same day that the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association announced it wasn’t supporting a June early signing period.
