24 teams in the High School Football America Top 100 will be in action this weekend with two match-ups between teams in our national rankings.

In Louisville, Kentucky, it will be a battle of 2016 Class 6A champs when No. 17 Carmel (Indiana) squares-off with No. 52 Trinity (Kentucky).  Trinity, which finished No. 9 in the final 2016 High School Football America national rankings, only returns one starter on offense — wide receiver Rondale Moore, who’s already given his verbal commitment to Texas.  Carmel won its eighth overall state title in 2016 with junior quarterback Jake McDonald at the helm.

2016 Indiana Class 6A runner-up Center Grove, which lost to Carmel 16-13 in overtime in the state title game, will open its season Friday night against No. 20 Warren Central. Center Grove is ranked No. 48 in our preseason rankings.

Ben Davis, the fourth Indiana team in our national rankings, will open against Arsenal Tech. The Giants are ranked No. 50 in our preseason rankings that are developed with our proprietary algorithm.

The highest ranked team to take the field Friday night will be No. 11 Chandler (Arizona), which will square-off with Red Mountain (Arizona).  The Wolves have been strengthened by transfers from Hamilton, which was rocked by a hazing scandal.

All three of Arizona’s nationally-ranked teams will be in action Friday night.  In addition to Chandler, four-time state champ Saguaro, ranked No. 38 in our preseason rankings, will play at Catalina Hills and No. 42 Mountain Pointe will face Sandra Day O’Conner.

No. 24 South Pointe (South Carolina), winners of 15 straight playoff games, will open its drive for its fourth straight state title against Northwestern (South Carolina).  In addition to the Stallions, defending South Carolina Class AAAAA champ Dutch Fork will face North Carolina’s Independence High.  The Silver Foxes are ranked No. 45 and coached by former Independence head coach Tom Knotts. Fort Dorchester, the state’s third nationally-ranked team at No. 58, will face Dorman.

Football begins in Utah with No. 25 East squaring-off with Timpview and No. 65 Bingham facing Orem Friday night.  Next week, East and Bingham will square-off against each other.

Five of Georgia’s six nationally-ranked teams will be in action — No. 29 and 2015 national champ Colquitt County opens against Norcross; two-time defending state champ No. 74 Carterville plays Allatoona; defending 5A champ Valdosta will face Lowndes in their annual backyard brawl;  No. 84 Buford plays Hillgrove; No. 86 Harrison and its top-ranked quarterback Justin Fields opens its season against East Paulding; and No. 89 Roswell plays South Forsyth.  No. 16 Grayson is idle until it plays No. 8 Hoover (Alabama) on August 25.

The 2017 season opens in Tennessee with No. 32 Brentwood Academy facing Hillsboro.

No. 47 Mission Viejo gets jump on its California competition by traveling to Hawaii to play Baldwin.

In North Carolina, No. 62 Wake Forest opens against Millbrook.

No. 70 Oxford will travel to Vicksburg in Mississippi and No. 99 Kahuku will look to improve to 2-0 against Waianae in Hawaii.

And finally, No. 100 Kirkwood opens the 2017 season against Chaminade.
