Clemson-recruit Trevor Lawrence is hoping to lead Cartersville to its third straight state championship this year, but Friday night in Hurricanes’ blowout win over Chapel Hill, fans were hoping that Lawrence would be able to re-write a couple of Georgia high school passing records.
Lawrence needed 105 yards and six touchdowns to break Deshaun Watson’s career marks in both categories. Watson, who played his college ball at Clemson and currently a rookie for the NFL’s Houston Texans, threw for 13,077 yards and 155 yards during his time at Gainesville High School.
Friday night, the 6-6, 208-pound Lawrence threw for 283 yards to breaking the career passing mark. His four TD passes in the 62-0 win leaves him one short of Watson’s record and two short of a new mark

Lawrence didn’t play the second half, which marks the eighth time in nine games this year that the No. 2 rated overall recruit in the nation, according to 247Sports.com, stayed on the bench in the second half for Cartersville, which is currently ranked No. 48 in the High School Football America Top 100.
The victory was the 39th straight for the Hurricanes, who will close-out the regular season against Troup County next week. After that the Lawrence and his teammates will begin their quest for a third straight Class AAAA title.
