The New York Jets have announced today that Danny Landberg of Erasmus Hall High School in Brooklyn, N.Y., has been named this week’s recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Year Award. For his efforts, he will receive $2,000 to benefit the school’s football program and he will be presented with a certificate from the Jets.
The award, in its 17th year, is given to a coach in the tristate area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.
Landberg is in his 18th season of coaching football and his 11th as the head coach of the Dutchmen. He previously served as assistant coach on JFK’s Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL) city championship team in 2000. Coach Landberg led the Dutchmen to the city championship game in 2011, earning city finalist.
In his continuous effort to teach the fundamentals of football, Landberg attends the University of Maryland Terrapin Technique School to learn the proper methods of the game. He also takes part in football camps as an instructor in the Brooklyn area. Mr. Landberg graduated from Maryland with a degree in sports medicine/sports management and is a dean of physical education at Erasmus Hall.
On Tuesday, the Erasmus Dutchmen defeated the Tottenville Pirates, 15-14, to cap the season as undefeated PSAL City Champions. The school previously won “B” championships in 1986 and 1987. This win gave the Dutchmen their first PSAL Championship Division title.
