We knew all year long that anything could happen once we got to the postseason in Class 7A. It happened last weekend in the state quarterfinals where the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 teams in the High School Football America Georgia Top 25 saw their seasons come to end.
It all started with defending champ Mill Creek, No. 1 in our statewide rankings, powered by NFL Play Football, was upset by unranked Camden County 39-20. The Cougars, who make their first appearance in the Top 25 at No. 23 this week, will now face the new No. 1 team in Walton in the semis.
On the other side of the bracket, No. 2 Buford was taken down by Grayson 19-14. The win moves the Rams from No. 11 to No. 5 this week. They’ll play No. 6 Milton this week. The Eagles shocked former No. 3 Colquitt County 39-37.
In 6A, Douglas County soars into the rankings at No. 14 after taking down Lee County. LC drops from No. 13 to No. 18.
Up next for DC is No. 17 Woodward Academy, which edged former No. 6 Gainesville 20-17. The Red Elephants fall four spots to No. 10.
In the other semifinal, No. 12 Thomas County Central plays No. 16 Marist.
